Guacimeta Airport – Lanzarote

Lanzarote airport, also known as Guacimeta airport because of the beach next to it, is situated in the municipality of San Bartolomé, 5 kilometres from the capital. The airport has played an important role in the development of tourism on the island.

The air traffic comes mainly from Europe with the United Kingdom and Germany representing almost 69% of all international flights. The main destinations for national flights are Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Madrid and Barcelona. In 2005, the airport registered 5,467,499 passengers, 47,158 flights and dealt with more than 6,629 tons of cargo.

The airport has a chemist,cafes, restaurants and several shops. It also has a VIP lounge, a passenger service department and offices for the different airlines operating in the airport.

The airport has two terminals T1 and T2. T1 deals with both national and international flights while T2 deals with flights between the islands. Both terminals have a taxi rank in arrivals with multimedia information centres.
The Aeronautical Museum of Lanzarote can be found in the former passenger terminal. This museum contains a mural, painted by the Belgian artist Jean P Hock and a copy of the César Manrique work of art ‘Lanzarote’ done in acrylic in 1953. The association of taxi drivers Ajey-Tamia has an information office and customer service department in arrivals in terminal 1 in the airport.
